- Most published literature of this type is available for a fee. The way to gain free access is through your local college or public library. The libraries subscribe to databases (with your tax dollars) - this is to provide the public with access to magazines, journals, newspapers, etc. Having said that, if you're a college student I would recommend using GoogleScholar http://scholar.google.com/ First, set your "scholar preferences" and select the library or libraries you have access to. Then, within your search results you will find highlighted the articles that are included in your library, with direct links into these library databases. (Example databases: ERIC, JStor, ProQuest, Ebsco, Academic Search Premier, etc.) Some related Web sites: http://www.nifl.gov/ http://www.sil.org/literacy/issues.htm http://www.policyalmanac.org/education/archive/literacy.shtml Edit: one more thing I forgot to mention. Most libraries today are offering research assistance via an IM or chat service. Go to the library Web site and look for links that say "Ask a Librarian" or "Ask a Question" or something like that. http://lists.webjunction.org/libweb/
